Major trauma alert activation

The hospital trauma team should be alerted via 2222 if a patient fulfill the following triggers when triaged or pre-alerted on the 'red phone'.

Physiological triggers


Airway compromise

Clinical evidence of Hypovolaemia

GCS<13

In adults only:

SBP <90,

RR less than 10 or >29

Pregant >20 weeks and torso trauma


Anatomical triggers


Penetrating trauma (except a limb)

Flail Chest

More than 1 major long bone # (hum/femur/tib)

Suspected Pelvic #

Spinal cord injury

Significant burn or enclosure

Amputation proximal to wrist or ankle


Mechanism Triggers (at discretion of Senior Doctor)


Fall >6 meters

Significant intrusion

Death of another occupant

Ejection
