Facial wounds March 2018 | by EMauthor •Wound cleaning and preparation should be as for the rest of body, if you are not experienced be careful with debridement of skin edges, seek senior help •Most intra-oral laceration will not require suturing, if in doubt consult with consultant or Max-Fax on call •Lip laceration requires special experience as perfect opposition of the vermilion border should be obtained, consult with consultant or refer to MaxFax •Be careful of lip lacerations caused by embedding of teeth as they are potentially infected and sometimes contain bits of broken teeth •Eyebrow and eyelid lacerations require special care, seek consultant's advice or refer. Never shave the eyebrow •Referral details for the plastic surgery unit if needed oThis is via Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust (Broomfield hospital). Usually a referral via TRIPS telemedicine portal is helpful, but not always necessary depending on urgency oThe dedicated imaging camera is located in the ED Nurse-in-Charge office and must be signed out oConsent the patient for image transfers Contact details for referrals |
