Rotator cuff tears March 2018 | by EMauthor •The rotator cuff consists of the tendons of supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis blended with the fibrous capsule of the shoulder joint •Acute massive rotator cuff tear follow fall on shoulder, it may or may not be associated with fracture of the greater tuberosity •There is loss of active abduction with tenderness in the subacromial region •Acute or chronic massive tear can occur in the elderly with trivial injury •Always x-ray the shoulder to exclude fracture or detect calcific deposits •Most of patients recover with conservative treatment oAnalgesia oSupport in sling oPhysiotherapy oSurgery may be indicated in the young patient oArrange fracture clinic follow up |
