Tibial fractures March 2018 | by EMauthor Tibial plateau fractures •Can be subtle and difficult to identify radiologically •Both tibial plateaus can be fractured although it is more common with the lateral one which can result from a valgus stress to the knee •There is high incidence of ligamentous injuries with these fractures, these should be assessed carefully •Undisplaced single tibial plateau fracture with intact ligaments oApply bivalved above knee POP cylinder oNon-weight bearing crutches oFracture clinic follow up (within a week) •Displaced fractures or those with evidence of ligament disruption •Refer to orthopaedics Tibial spine fracture •This can be associated with anterior cruciate ligament injury •There is usually an associated haemarthrosis •They need accurate reduction, refer to orthopaedics |
