Acute monoarthritis March 2018 | by EMauthor •This a common presentation •Common causes are oTrauma oSeptic arthritis oReactive mono-arthropathy oGout •The important diagnosis not to miss is septic arthritis •WCC and inflammatory markers (CRP and ESR ) can be raised in septic arthritis as well as in gout and reactive arthropathy, exercise care in interpreting results •The only definite way to establish diagnosis of septic arthritis is to examine joint aspirate for organisms and culture and sensitivity. The sample can be tested for urate crystals as well •If in doubt seek senior help |
