Amputations March 2018 | by EMauthor Amputated parts can be replanted using micro-vascular techniques. It is not usually possible to replant injuries distal to the DIP joint. Ask for senior advice or discuss with plastic surgery unit Referral •Multiple digits. Will always be attempted •Thumb or part of it. Will always be attempted •Proximal hand (e.g. trans-metacarpal). Will always be attempted •Single digit. Depend on the case, discus with plastics •Place the amputated part (parts) in a sealed polythene bag. Place the bag in a container that contains ice and water oDon’t place the amputated part on ice directly oLabel these containers clearly and make sure they accompany the correct patient Contact details for referrals |
