Assessment of the hand March 2018 | by EMauthor •Use names for fingers rather than numbers and use Palmar, dorsal, ulnar and radial for orientation •Look for any wound, swelling, deformity •Check the movement of all the joints both active and passive including wrist movement •Feel for any localised tenderness, crepitus •Assess for tendon function individually using specific test •Test sensory and motor functions of individual nerves •Check radial pulse and capillary refill •Always examine wounds under local anaesthesia to assess for tendon injuries |
