Calcific tendonitis

•Can present as an acute episode or recurrent condition with shoulder pain and difficulty in moving the shoulder

•X-ray of the shoulder may show calcification of supraspinatus

•Treatment consists of NSAID/Analgesics.

•Local steroid injections with local anaesthetist can help in some cases but it is out of the remit of emergency treatment.

•Sometimes dispersion of the calcific deposit under image intensifier can be helpful. Follow up for these options should be via GP
