Elbow injuries March 2018 | by EMauthor Olecranon fractures Undisplaced with intact extensor mechanism •Above elbow back slab with elbow at 90 degrees •Analgesia •Fracture clinic Displaced fractures will require internal fixation •Above elbow back slab •Refer to orthopaedics Radial head fractures Undisplaced •Treat with broad arm sling, analgesia and fracture clinic follow up •Patients in severe pain or elbow swelling may benefit from support with an above elbow back slab Displaced •Many will require surgery; refer to orthopaedics Radial neck fractures Adults •Undisplaced , broad arm sling, analgesia and fracture clinic follow up •Displaced refer to orthopaedics Children •Refer to orthopaedics Elbow effusion •Positive fat pad sign •Most are due to occult intra-articular fractures •Radial head in adults •Supracondylar fracture in children •Collar and cuff •# clinic review in one week |
