Muscle haematoma

Swelling and tenderness over muscle groups following muscle tear from direct injury or sudden muscle contraction

Exclude any bony injury with x-ray if indicated

Exclude neuro-vascular injury

Exclude compartment syndrome

Ensure that patient is not on warfarin or suffer from bleeding tendency

Treat with support, analgesia and early physiotherapy

Arrange follow up for large haematomas especially on the thigh or buttocks
