Slipped upper femoral epiphysis March 2018 | by EMauthor •Associated usually with puberty and obesity •Can present with acute onset of pain or with more chronic and recurrent picture •Significant external rotation and limitation of flexion of the hip may be noted •The child will be systemically well and WCC, ESR, and CRP will be normal •X-ray will usually demonstrate the slip, one tip is to draw a line along the superior border of the femoral neck, this line should transect the lateral quarter of the femoral head. If in doubt discuss the x-ray with EM consultant, or radiologist •All patient with SUFE should be referred urgently to orthopaedics as the treatment is usually urgent surgery |
